Regenerative Medicine

This is an expanding field medicine focused on repair of damaged areas of the body with the hope that it will help improve chronic illnesses. The process involves reduction of inflammatory factors that contribute to propagate illness and slow recovery. One of the studied cellular modalities to aid in recovery is the use of STEM CELLS (SC). These cells have been widely studied for therapeutic application regarding their regenerative / reparative potential as well as their immunomodulatory properties. However, the benefits of using SC are attributed to signalling by extracellular vesicles (EVs) or as we know it by EXOSOMES.

SC derived Exosomes are challenging to stabilise and produce to achieve the desired effect. Due to the close association of mother and fetus, the placental or related source provides a persuasive stem cell source for the development of therapeutic exosomes.

Due to these factors, Dr Tariq Ali Khan uses only the most efficient exosomes derived from Wharton's jelly, or Amniotic sources to inject or infuse for repair and regeneration. Areas and conditions we use Exosomes to treat include:

  • Recovery after laser skin resurfacing
  • Wound recovery after surgery (can be applied topically or injected)
  • Prevention of scar formation after surgery
  • Infusion post workout for recovery and repair
  • Infusion after sporting event for athletes
  • Infusion for traumatic brain injury (fighters, football players, and any contact sport)
  • Injection into knee for pain due to damage and repair
  • Injection into ankle for pain and repair
  • Injection into shoulder for pain and repair
  • Infusion for Chronic medical conditions such as neuropathic disorders, rheumatic disorders, Asthma, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, memory loss, etc.

Regenerative Medicine

**DISCLAIMER**

One thing to remember about this treatment is it is still in phases of investigation. We do not make any claim that this is curative in any way nor will it provide longevity as there is not enough long term data on the use of EVs and stem cells to validate these claims. We have however seen a great potential in recovery and repair aiding in faster wound healing and improvement of some symptoms of chronic medical illness. As a physician in medicine, Dr Khan will let you know if this is something you may benefit from.

FAQs:

How long are the treatments?

Treatments can vary from 10 mins - 1Hr depending on what is being done. Joint injections take a bit longer to perform, IV infusion can be very rapid as a push or slower as an infusion with saline or LR.

Where are the Exosomes derived from?

We use either exosomes derived from Wharton's jelly, amniotic or MSC (mesenchymal ) sources. We will choose which we feel will be the best choice for your condition.

Are there any side effects?

As this involves cellular infusion, there is a very low risk for any complications. As with any medical treatment, there are risks for allergic reactions and complications related to the injection site itself.

How long will it take to feel the effects?

This can vary from 2 days to 2 weeks.

Is there a limit to how much can be used in one session?

As there is no toxicity to Exosome infusion, you can have infusions weekly without any risk for negative effects.

What is the average cost of an exosome treatment?

This can vary based on the application. Infusions can start at $5000 based on how many vials are used. Joint injections start at $3500. All injections and infusions are performed by Dr Tariq Ali Khan in office.

Can this treatment be done at home?

We are able to treat by IV as home infusion which may incur a slight increased cost but given our concierge practice, this will be a marginal cost.
